A new splash park and paddling pool facility in Staple Tye has moved a step closer.
We have agreed to enter into a contract for the delivery of the new facility, which is also subject to planning permission being granted.
Councillor Russell Perrin, cabinet portfolio holder for finance and governance, said:
“This will be the first splash park facility of its size and kind in the town, which will not only provide an amazing new facility for Staple Tye families, but families across the town. The town’s paddling pools are much-loved facilities that is why is has been important that we invest in them and improve them for the future.
“I would like to thank paddling pool users, residents and community groups who gave their views as part of the review and which have guided the improvement programme. I’m sure Harlow’s new splash park, which will retain a paddling pool element to it, will become an equally popular facility in the years to come. This council wants to improve and enhance facilities for all in our town so we provide new and better opportunities for our residents.”
The improvements will be funded from the existing paddling pool investment fund. This fund has also paid for health and safety improvements to the town’s paddling pools this year.
The development of the new splash park will take place on the existing Staple Tye paddling pool site. The new facility will retain a paddling pool element to it. There will be different zones in the park for various age groups as well as facilities to make it accessible for all abilities.
The plans follow a scrutiny committee review completed in 2020 which looked at the town’s five paddling pools and splash park at Potter Street.
Work on the new park is expected to begin in February 2022.
