Staff and police praised for work on unauthorised encampment

Harlow Council has issued the following statement after the recent unauthorised traveller encampment on Second Avenue:

“The caravans and vehicles left Second Avenue on Easter Monday afternoon (10 April 2023) after we served a notice asking that the site is vacated by the end of the Easter holiday weekend.

“We would like to thank our Community Safety team and Essex Police for their work in helping to resolve this matter so quickly. Both our officers and the police continued to regularly visit the unauthorised encampment over the Easter holiday weekend.

“We are pleased to have resolved this matter swiftly working in partnership with the police. The action we take will always be about upholding the law, responding to the concerns of residents and businesses, and protecting the town’s open spaces. It is not – and will never be about – persecuting any particular group of people or their way of life.”
