Statement on the third anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine:
“The Ukrainian flag is flying outside the Civic Centre as we mark the third anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
“Three years on and our thoughts remain with all those Ukrainians and innocent people who have lost their lives and continue to be affected by the invasion. Like many towns and cities across the country three years ago our residents opened their hearts and doors to help Ukrainian families through the national Homes for Ukraine Scheme, and as a town we donated thousands of items of humanitarian aid through the Civic Centre donation point.
“We thank all those who have provided their support in the last few years. Local organisations such as Integration Support continue to support many Ukrainian families who have come to the town and to the local area and we have heard first-hand the difference the town has made to people’s lives.
“Today (24 February) we remember the resilient of the people of Ukraine and we continue to stand together with them hoping that one day the sovereignty and independence of Ukraine will be restored."
