Harlow Council has appointed Greenford Ltd to turn the derelict Canons Gate Allotment into a new Community Orchard. Work on site will begin in the coming weeks.
The works will restore pride to the area and transform a derelict allotment into a new community resource which can be enjoyed by residents.
This project is part of the council’s mission to “renew our neighbourhoods” as it builds Harlow’s future.
Councillor Nicky Purse, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Environment & Sustainability, said:
“Appointing a contractor marks a really positive milestone in bringing the Canons Gate Community Orchard to life. This project is about more than planting trees it’s about restoring pride in the area, creating a shared community space, and transforming a site that has stood derelict for far too long. Work will begin shortly, with tree planting planned for the spring, and I’m delighted that this former allotment site will soon become a welcoming, green asset for residents to enjoy for years to come.”
