Council’s town centre rebuild takes shape

Real, visible progress in Building Harlow’s Future is now clear to see, with Harlow Council’s major regeneration projects moving from plan to reality across the town centre.

The latest photos released by the council show the current construction progress across three major schemes.

In the emerging Arts and Cultural Quarter, new buildings are rising on the former Occasio House site, giving residents a clear sense of the development’s scale and ambition. Just a short distance away, work has now begun in front of the Playhouse preparing construction of the town’s new live music venue, adding further momentum to efforts to transform Harlow’s cultural scene.

Elsewhere, the structure of the new bus station is going up, marking a significant milestone in delivering a modern transport hub. At the same time, the new Market Square is beginning to take shape, with the outline of the water feature, a revitalised space for markets, events and community life becoming increasingly visible.

All projects are progressing on schedule and within budget, highlighting strong delivery across what is one of the biggest and most ambitious regeneration programmes undertaken by any district council in the UK.

Commenting on the visible progress the town can see, Councillor Dan Swords, Leader of Harlow Council, said:

“We are getting on with the job of rebuilding our town and delivering for Harlow residents. Across the town centre you can see cranes in the air, structures going up, and real change happening. Week-by-week you can see the difference being made and we have more rebuild projects and schemes to come with the purchase of key sites and buildings which will be redeveloped.

“This is about truly Building Harlow’s Future – creating new opportunities for residents and businesses, new spaces to meet, and a town centre that people can be proud of again. We are delivering the biggest regeneration programme of any district council in the country, and the progress now visible shows that we are turning plans into reality.

“Building Harlow’s Future is at the heart of everything we are doing, and we are determined to keep delivering.”

With construction activity now clearly visible across multiple sites, Harlow Council’s mission to “rebuild our town” is not only firmly underway but gathering pace.
