Every remaining underpass across Harlow is set to be transformed with vibrant new murals, as Harlow Council expands its hugely popular programme following an incredible response from residents.
Earlier this year, the council began working with Harlow-based street art company MurWalls to transform underpasses across the town with striking new murals celebrating Harlow, its people, history and identity.
The partnership has been a huge success. The murals have received overwhelming support from residents, transforming previously grey, tired and unwelcoming spaces into colourful landmarks that bring creativity and pride into Harlow’s neighbourhoods.
Now the council is going further, with murals planned for every remaining underpass across the town – and residents are being asked to help shape what goes on them.
Local history, Harlow icons, famous faces, nature, neighbourhood stories or something completely different – the council wants to hear the ideas residents would love to see brought to life.

Announcing the murals, Dan Swords, Leader of Harlow Council, said:
“The response to the murals we’ve created with Harlow-based MurWalls has been phenomenal. Residents love them, and they have shown just how transformational great street art can be – turning grey, tired spaces into bold, colourful celebrations of our town.
“So we’re going bigger. We’re going to bring murals to every remaining underpass across Harlow – and we want residents to help us decide what goes on them.
“Whether it’s a piece of Harlow’s history, a famous face, an iconic landmark, nature or something completely original, we want to hear your ideas.
“This is about transforming the everyday places around us, celebrating what makes Harlow special and bringing more colour, creativity and pride to every neighbourhood.
“This is yet more proof that we’re renewing our neighbourhoods as we Build Harlow’s Future.”
