Harlow bin crews applauded for their exceptional performance

Harlow’s bin crews continue to deliver an exceptional bin collection service, achieving a 99.9% on-time collection rate and maintaining high standards of reliability.

Regular reports go to Harlow Council’s Cabinet on how different council services are performing. The reliability and quality of bin collections continue to show a consistent and strong performance since last summer with bin collections still at a 99.9% on time collection rate.

There have been significant improvements in the consistency of the performance following close performance management from the council.

Councillor Nicky Purse, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Environment, has praised the efforts of bin crews and all those involved in improving the reliability of Harlow’s waste collection service. She said:

"The quality and reliability of bin collections is vital — it impacts every household in Harlow. That’s why we continue to work closely with our waste partner, Veolia, to ensure we are delivering an efficient and high-performing service for our residents.”

“A year ago, a high number of collections were being missed, and the council’s performance targets were not being met. Since then, a significant amount of work has gone into turning the service around. Thanks to the dedication of council officers, Veolia, and especially the bin crews, we are now seeing a much more reliable service, with around 4.5 million collections carried out every year.”

“While occasional missed collections are inevitable for a range of reasons, we are committed to staying on top of the issues and maintaining the high standards that our residents rightly expect.”

It is important that missed collections are reported to the council so these can be put right quickly. Missed collections can be reported to the council here.
