More major playground upgrades announced

More playground upgrades have been announced as part of Harlow Council’s ambitious playground transformation programme.

The programme supports the council’s mission to “renew our neighbourhoods” and invests directly in improving local facilities for families.

This year, major upgrades, which will completely transform play areas, will be delivered at:

  • Hodings Road (Hester House)
  • Katherines playing field (Tithelands)
  • Latton Bush Park
  • Swallows
  • Willowfield

Children, young people and families who use these playgrounds will help shape the designs and decide what play equipment is installed. An online survey will be launched shortly, with details shared with local schools near the playgrounds.

Earlier this year, the council announced that Glebelands and Potters Field would be the first playgrounds to be upgraded through the programme. Construction work on these sites is due to begin in June, with completion expected in July.

The council has said that more playground upgrades across the town are to come as part of Building Harlow’s Future.

Commenting on the programme, Councillor Nicky Purse, Cabinet Member for Environment and Enforcement, said:

“I’m absolutely delighted that we are continuing to renew our neighbourhoods by transforming more playgrounds for local families. Crucially, the families who use these spaces will have a say in what the playgrounds include.

“Playgrounds sit at the heart of our communities. They are where children grow in confidence, friendships are formed, and families come together – helping to build stronger, more connected neighbourhoods.

“This programme is about far more than upgrading equipment. It’s about investing in local families and creating vibrant, welcoming spaces where people of all ages can thrive.

“High-quality green and play spaces are essential to placemaking and regeneration. They support healthier lifestyles, strengthen community pride, and contribute to a better quality of life for everyone.

“This is another important step in delivering Building Harlow’s Future.”
