Harlow’s splash parks at Staple Tye and Potter Street will open a month earlier this year as part of a package of improvements and upgrades to the town’s much-loved community facilities.
The splash parks will now open in June, following feedback from public consultation held last summer.
Residents’ suggestions have directly shaped several improvements being introduced for the 2026 season.
Alongside the extended opening period, regular quiet SEN (special educational needs) hours will be introduced at the Town Park paddling pool and Staple Tye splash park. Additional benches are being installed across sites, and activities for families to get involved in will run alongside the pools throughout the summer. All pools will also have longer opening hours and a new daily cleaning rota to ensure they are safe and fit for use.
Potter Street splash park will also receive a new surface and two new water features, adding to the significant upgrades made last year – which included new sunshades at Staple Tye and Sumners, and upgraded filtration systems at the older pools in Bush Fair, Norman Booth, Sumners and the Town Park.
Councillor Danielle Brown, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Culture and Community, said:
“Let’s be honest, looking out the window right now at this relentless wet and cold weather is enough to make anyone feel a bit "doom and gloom." But as your Cabinet Member for Culture and Community, I’m here to give you a glimpse of what’s just around the corner. Goodbye grey skies, hello Harlow summer!
“In 4 months' time, those grey clouds will be a distant memory. We’ll be trading the big coats for sun cream enjoying the best of Harlow’s summer!
“You told us how much you value our town’s six free-to-use paddling pools and splash parks, and we didn’t just listen - we acted.
“We are opening the gates in June, a full month earlier than usual, to give our kids more time to enjoy the sun. I’m especially proud that we are introducing dedicated SEN sessions, ensuring these fun spaces are safe and welcoming for every child in our town.
“We’re making sure the whole vibe is right. We have expanded our cleaning rota across these sites to ensure the environment stays lovely, clean, and safe for families to enjoy all summer long.
“This is what Building Harlow’s Future looks like in practice. It’s not just about big projects; it’s about the community services that make life better for you and your family.
“We’re busy preparing for a summer full of laughter and sunshine. I can’t wait to see you all there!”
