Thousands attend Harlow's free fireworks display

Harlow’s free-to-attend bonfire and fireworks night event returned to the Town Park last night and was enjoyed by crowds of more than 15,000 people.

This year the event was celebrating its 46th year anniversary.

Opening the event was Harlow Steel Band playing who played at the Showground entrance from 5.30pm. The lighting of the bonfire by the Chair of Harlow Council, Councillor Andrew Johnson, followed at 6.15pm and then 20-minute spectacular fireworks display lit up the skies above the Town Park.

The event is organised as part of the council’s mission to protect our communities. The event encourages residents to attend a public display rather organise their own events.

Councillor Danielle Brown, portfolio holder for community and wellbeing, said:

“The council’s fireworks and bonfire night is always an amazing event and last night’s did not disappoint.  It is one of the largest free admission displays in the east of England and an event the council is very proud of. The council has been entertaining families with fireworks and a bonfire for 46 years and we are now looking ahead to the celebrate the event’s 47th anniversary next year. I would like to thank all the council staff, stewards and volunteers involved for putting on another safe and enjoyable event.”

Feedback from those attending the event has been very positive. Comments via the council’s Facebook page include:

“Thank you, Harlow Council. It was a fantastic display, as always. Best we've seen for a few years.”
