Hawkenbury meadow

Hawkenbury meadow is a long strip of neutral grassland that runs alongside a brook next to Katherine's Way.

The site has margins of mature woodland on both sides and a central patch of willow trees.

The meadow has many interesting wildflowers such as yellow rattle, common spotted orchid, cowslip, wild carrot, and grass vetchling.

The northern part of the meadow has damper soil and attracts more marshland plants.

Although fairly small, the site is a peaceful change from the busy road and a good place to spot butterflies.

If you're interested in Harlow's wild spaces, you can volunteer to help conserve them
