Bus station set to move temporarily

Following the demolition of the Terminus House footbridge, Harlow Council is stepping up its work to rebuild the town centre with further preparations to create a new sustainable transport hub and interchange.

Next week (Wednesday 11 September), a planning application to create a temporary bus station at the Post Office Road car park site will go to the council’s Development Management Committee. The application, which is recommended for approval, will help to speed up the delivery of the new sustainable transport hub and interchange. It will be another milestone in the multi-million pound-project, funded by Government as part of the Town Deals and Harlow’s Towns Fund programme.

Councillor Dan Swords, Leader of Harlow Council, said:

The temporary move will allow us to speed up the delivery of a brand-new bus station and transport hub for the town centre. It will mean that we can get on with the next phase of transforming this area without having to work around an operational bus station.

“If the application is approved, the temporary bus station at Post Office Road will include 8 bus stands, accessible pedestrian platforms, shelters and cycle hoops. Moving stands to this location will cause the least disruption to bus users while construction is taking place. This approach means services will only have to move once and will be out of the way of construction when it begins, moving back once the transformation project is completed.”

Further details will be announced following the outcome of the application next week.
