Crucial Crew 2025: Helping our kids to stay safe

Published date

Harlow Council’s Youth and Citizenship and Community Safety teams hosted year 6 pupils from schools all over Harlow at the Latton Bush Centre for Crucial Crew, from 13 to 20 March.

The event, which is funded by the Essex Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner, aims to raise children’s awareness about how they can keep themselves and others safe at home and in the community. Over the course of a week, 1,300 students took part in a range of informative and interactive scenarios where they learnt about the issues that affect children and young people, especially as they make the move from primary to secondary school when they are much more likely to be out on their own.

In addition to officers from the council, Essex Police, Essex County Fire and Rescue Service and Safer Places all took part, delivering sessions on topics including antisocial behaviour, gangs, drugs and county lines, knife crime, healthy relationships and water safety.

The event was hugely successful, is a really important annual activity that can make a real positive impact on our young people and part of the council’s mission to protect our communities.
