Harlow Council is delivering over 1,000 new parking spaces in housing estates this year as part of its Building Harlow’s Future plan - doubling last year’s figure of 500.
Tackling estate parking challenges is a key part of the council’s mission to ‘renew our neighbourhoods’.
New spaces have already been created in areas like Broadfield, The Friars, Milwards, and Jerounds, with work underway or planned soon in Risdens, Halling Hill, Woodcroft, Rivermill, Church Leys, Rushes Mead, Hookfield, Hollyfield, Longbanks, The Dashes, and Pennymead — with more estates to be confirmed shortly.
The council is also seeking planning permission to turn neglected landscaped areas into parking areas in places like Chapel Fields, Orchard Croft, Wharley Hook, Latton Hall Close, Dellfield Court, Bishopsfield, Harefield, and Long Ley.
This ambitious programme is picking up pace, and the council is on track to meet its goal of creating 1,000 new spaces by the end of the year.
Commenting on the progress, the Cabinet Member for Housing, Councillor David Carter, said:
“The lack of parking spaces and inconsiderate parking is one of the most complained about issues in our estates. That’s why, last year we created over 500 new spaces last year – the most significant intervention the council has made in many years.
“But this year we are going much further by creating over 1,000 new spaces across the town. Whilst this won’t deal with every issue, this is a major improvement programme which is part of our mission to renew our neighbourhoods and is just another example of how we are building Harlow’s future.”
